Although born in Europe, Astrid has lived on Vancouver Island most of her life, including two years in the rugged beauty of Haida Gwaii. She holds a Masters in Art Education.
Currently, her focus is on acrylics, pastels and mixed media; she experiments with techniques to express the wild places that have seeped into her soul.
“Trees, especially evergreens in winter and spring, have always fascinated me. I am inspired by their subtle movement, feel their strong independent presence, and often sense an intimacy while in their midst. I seek to convey this connection through my art. Through my imagination, sketching and taking photos, I strive to express the joy, peace and spirit I feel when I am surrounded by nature.”
